BEHIND YOUR SUNGLASSES
1984 - Produced by Lionel Herrmani  - Length: 2'07"
Discography: A bride abattue - Toutes les nuits - Les Calamités - C'est complet

CarolineBehind Your Sunglasses is the only song in English ever composed and recorded by the Calamités (don't forget that Caroline studied English and that Mike the drummer was British). It appeared on the B-side of their single Toutes les nuits.
It's also one of their slowest songs, in a minor mode, with an intro and a coda using the harmonica of Dominique Laboubée (lead singer of the Dogs).
The lyrics tell a story that could have been taken from a thriller novel or a black-and-white movie, about a barmaid trying (eventually successfully) to catch the attention of a customer who is drowning his sorrows at the bar.
By the way, "Is he going to notice me?" is a question later to be found again in the songs With A Boy Like You and J'en ferais bien mon quatre-heure.
Belonging to both categories of fictions and seduction stories, this track definitely deserves to be rediscovered.

Behind Your Sunglasses

Lyrics/Music: Caroline Augier, Isabelle Petit, Odile Repolt
Publisher: Sanity Clause Music

I want you to tell me if you keep thinking of her
(Even if it's so far away)
I wish I could guess what feelings you hide
(Behind your sunglasses)

The sun is bright - Oh Oh
But you are here sitting at the bar
Just smoking and drinking all the time
(Drinking all the time)
I've never seen - Oh Oh
Never seen you smile at anybody but her
And now she's gone for ever
(She's gone with another)

And I want you to tell me if you're looking at me
(Now you've turned your head)
I wish that it's me that you are looking for today
(Behind your sunglasses)

I know I'm just - Oh Oh
Just a barmaid and she was a star
But my heart can give you love
Better than her
(Better than her)
If only one day - Oh Oh
I could see your eyes
Behind those glasses
I'd make you understand it
(I'd make you understand it)

I'd really be glad if you were looking on me
(Behind your sunglasses)
No I'm not dreaming you are smiling at me
(Behind your sunglasses)
